5 Ways to Get More Website Traffic

1. Enhance User Experience (UX)

Alright, so first things first, let’s make your website something people WANT to go to. If people find your site easy to navigate and pleasant to look at, they’ll stick around longer, improving website traffic.

  • Keep It Simple: Make sure your menus are straightforward and easy to find.
  • Clear Call-to-Actions (CTAs): Use buttons and links that tell visitors exactly what to do next, like “Yes, I want more ______” or “Let’s Get Started”.
  • Appealing Visuals: Use high-quality images and a clean layout. Avoid clutter that can overwhelm your visitors.

So, imagine walking into a store where everything is neatly organized and easy to find. You’d probably stay longer and maybe buy something. Your website should feel the same way.

2. Mobile Responsiveness

People use their phones to browse the internet. Obviously. So….Your website needs to look and work great on all devices, not just computers. Shocker I know. But listen, this is STILL something I see that is overlooked. If you want more website traffic you have to make sure your website looks good and works on mobile devices.

  • Responsive Design: Use a design that adjusts to different screen sizes. This means your site will look good whether it’s viewed on a phone, tablet, or desktop.
  • Fast Load Times: Optimize images and layout so your site loads quickly, even on slower connections.

Every been to a site that was the exact same no matter what device you were on? Think about how frustrating it is to visit a site on your phone and not be able to read the text or click on buttons. Don’t let this happen to your visitors. Friends don’t let friends visit bad website layouts.

3. Optimize for Search Engines (SEO)

SEO helps your website show up in search engine results when people look for services like yours. This is key to getting more website traffic. Now waitaminute Roger, you just said my website needs to look good. And now you’re saying SEO is important? So which is it SEO or Design?

Yes.

SEO and Design are 2 sides of the same coin. If your design is on point but no one visits your website, what’s the point?
And if people find and visit but jump after 5 seconds (or less) because it looks bad….then what’s the point?

Design and SEO go hand in hand. So…how do you improve SEO?

  • Keywords: Use words and phrases in your content that people might type into a search engine.
  • ALT Tags: Write clear and compelling descriptions on your images for each page.
  • Quality Content: Create content that is useful and relevant to your audience.

One of the things I have done is look over a client’s website and check to see what keywords they have. And usually, they don’t. But after optimizing their website with keywords…They start to show up on Google! Which leads to people staying longer. So, ket’s say you own a bakery, use keywords like “best cookies in [your city]” so people looking for cookies in your area can find you easily. (Also, if you own a bakery with the best cookies, please let me know…..cookies are my spirit animal)

4. Create High-Quality Content

Content is king! The more useful and engaging content you have, the more likely people will visit and stay on your site, helping you get more website traffic.

  • Blog Posts: Write about topics that interest your audience and solve their problems.
  • Videos and Infographics: Use different types of content to keep things interesting.
  • Regular Updates: Keep your content fresh and up-to-date.

Maybe think about a blog post or video titled “5 Easy Tips for Baking Perfect Cookies” can attract people who are interested in baking and keep them coming back for more tips.

5. Engage with Online Communities

Join forums and online groups where your potential clients hang out. Share your expertise and be helpful. This engagement can help you get more website traffic by building your reputation and attracting visitors.

  • Answer Questions: Provide answers to questions people have about your industry.
  • Share Tips: Offer valuable tips and insights without always pushing your services.
  • Be Active: Regularly participate in discussions and be a part of the community.

If you’re a baker, participate in baking forums where people or businesses seek advice on baking. Share your expertise and perspective. Eventually you can mention that your services are available for those interested. You can even start your own Groups!
